When beginning the course ENC3213, my goal was to learn professional technical communication such as the development of memos, reports, resumes, cover letters, proposals for projects, proper design and presentations of documents while also meeting to the needs of the global audiences effectively. I have achieved this goal by completing seven different assignments that addressed the course outcomes.

Persuasive Memo

The persuasive memo was about addressing an issue at workplace and persuading the audience to take an action. My persuasive memo was addressed to the CEO of my company trying to convince him to increase the Internet marketing budget. On my first draft, I received a score of 2 out of 10. The low score was due to the memo being more informative rather than persuasive. I have revised the memo to be more persuasive and received a score of 8 out of 10.

I have not previously written any memos and this was an opportunity to learn how to write memos while meeting the course outcome.

Cover Letter & Resume

This assignment provided me with an excellent opportunity to review and revise my previously written cover letter and resume. First, I selected a job offering from the internet and wrote a cover letter and resume for this position. I had the cover letter and the resume reviewed by three classmates. I received the letter and the resume with their feedback on them. After taking their feedback and making corrections, I submitted my assignment and received a score of 9 out of 10.

This assignment helped me understand how to persuasively and professionally write a document for jobs.

Proposal

In a group of four, we were assigned to design a blog for the Digital Writing Studio(DWS). This was our first assignment as a group. I, along with my teammates, wrote a proposal to our client and presented how we would design the blog for the DWS. After listening to our client, our proposal addressed what medium we would use to design the site, the colors, and other features that will be incorporated in the design. In the document, we made sure our use of words, tone, and style were professional, clear, and concise.

We submitted the proposal as a group and received a score of 10 out of 10.

Progress Report

The progress report was submitted midway to the project. This report was a follow up from the proposal and stated what was accomplished, any difficulties, add-ons, cut-offs, and other obstacles we may have encountered in completing the project. By this phase, we tested some of the prototypes of the design and took a survey from students to test its usability. The progress report was mainly to inform the client of our progress.

We received a 10 out of 10 on the progress report.

Final Report Presentation

The final report presentation was designed in PowerPoint to showcase our final product and inform the audience of all the features and how we accomplished our goals. We have designed the PowerPoint as a team and presented each slides clearly and concisely. Each member of the team discussed the prototypes, the result of the surveys, the obstacles we faced and the possible that may occur in the future.

This presentation has allowed us to create effective multimedia presentations and meet the course outcome.

Final Report

In the final report, we discussed the final product and how we achieved the goals stated initially in the proposal. We also discussed how we overcame some of the obstacles we stated in the progress report. All the members of our blog design team wrote their part, which we combined to produce a single final report. We revised the final report and adopted the style, tone while making sure the report conveys the message clearly to our client.

We received a score of 20 out of 20 on this document. By completing this final report, I learned how to produce professionally produce a final report.

Chapter Presentation

I was assigned to discuss and present the outline of Chapter 2. Due to a little confusion, I had outlined chapter 1.

This Technical Communication course has helped me learn how to professionally write memos, reports, multimedia presentations, clearly and concisely using specific style and tone for the targeted audience. Be completing all the assignments, I believe I have achieved all the course outcomes. It was an interesting and enjoyable class. I am truly happy to have taken this course.
